FUNLAYERS | Sprint to Submission: EU Proposals (Workshop + Hackathon)

FUNLAYERS, together with the Early Stage Researcher Association (ESRA) at INL, is launching Sprint to Submission: EU Proposals edition — a new initiative designed to help early-stage researchers build the skills needed to prepare successful European funding proposals.

This two-part initiative takes place at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), Braga:

  • Preparatory Workshop — 16 October 2025 (14:30–17:30, INL)
    Led by Innovayt, the workshop introduces participants to the essentials of EU proposal development and provides practical tools to prepare for the hackathon.

  • Hackathon — 23 October 2025 (09:00–18:00, INL)
    A week later, participants will take part in a full-day hackathon, where teams collaborate to draft the key sections of a competitive EIC Pathfinder proposal.

Throughout the hackathon, participants will be challenged to work through:

  • Ideation & Problem Definition

  • State of the Art & Impact

  • Objectives & Success Criteria

  • Work Packages & Timeline

  • Budgeting Essentials

  • Risk Assessment & Mitigation

By combining expert input, peer collaboration, and hands-on practice, Sprint to Submission offers a dynamic pathway for young researchers to experience the process of shaping a compelling funding proposal.
